My qualificationsI originally trained to be a nurse and then, later in life, decided to change direction and become a counsellor & psychotherapist. I received my BA Degree in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy from IICP in Tallaght.
I am a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy, and am regulated by their Code of Ethics. |
Areas of particular specialityWorking as a carer for many years has given me a lot of valuable, grass-roots experience in caring for people with long-term and terminal illnesses, and also in supporting their families. I can offer insight and a genuine understanding of the changes that illness brings into the life of the people affected, as well as to their loved ones.
ASD/Asperger Syndrome/autism, ADHD, neurodiversity and other additional needs can be extremely challenging. I have many years' personal experience with neurodiverse family members. |

How I work
To me, the most important aspect of counselling is our relationship. We get to know one another while we talk about whatever brings you to counselling. I bring my personal experience as well as my training to our sessions. I work humanistically, ie relationship-based counselling, and integratively, meaning that I combine techniques to suit you and your situation specifically.
My training includes William Glasser's Reality Therapy and Carl Rogers' Person Centred Therapy, blended with the many other counselling tools and aspects that I have acquired during my lifetime of personal development. Reality Therapy is a solution-focused therapy good for working with practicalities, while Person Centred Therapy is more relationship-based. Mindfulness techniques also form an important part of my therapeutic work.
